Extracts from the interview published in Australian Print Media about the College:
- 1. Tell us about your College?
Ans: ICTM (Imperial College of Technology and Management) is committed to provide the highest quality education to enable and empower its students to seek self-improvement, irrespective of nationality, gender or belief. The Institute is a quality provider of vocational education, with a focus on job markets both domestic and global. By the dedicated pursuit of best teaching practice and the provision of a dynamic, student-centered learning environment, ICTM fosters in its students rational thought, intellectual integrity and social responsibility. Our ultimate focus is to develop world class skills in our students during the course to enable them to easily achieve their career goals.
- 2. What kind of courses do you offer and what's the motto of your institution?
Ans: All courses of ICTM are nationally recognized and internationally relevant which are competitive while fully meeting the stringent criteria of all Australian accreditation requirements. At Diploma level we have Diploma of Business Management and Diploma of Hospitality Management. At certificate level we have certificate III and IV in Commercial Cookery and Hair Dressing.
- 3. What is your Motto?
Ans: To strive for excellence. Apparently, our focus would be to follow national code of conduct in letter and spirit and to respect the right and aspiration of our students while delivering the promised course.
- 4. Can student have the fast track options?
Ans: We can do that within the frame work of regulatory requirement so that the students get full advantage of the education they receive.
- 5. Do you give credit transfer or RPL to students transferring from other providers?
Ans: Yes, Being a registered training organization (RTO) we recognize the AQF qualifications and statements of attainment by another registered training organization, hence transfer of credit will be available to students. Similarly, within the regulatory framework we may suitably address the RPL issue of the student.
- 6. How will you assist students in finding part time jobs?
Ans: We at ICTM understand the job market threshold criteria. We shall have integrated approach towards this vital issue. Our focus will involve general grooming of students to prepare them to meet trade level skills requirement. Certainly, it is possible with high level of training both in theory and practical to enable the students to receive real life experience to perform their assigned task confidently.
Further, we understand the imperatives of written/ verbal communication, interpersonal and IT skills needed in today's job market. We will assist them in resume writing and interview technique etc. Besides, availability of well equipped computer lab will assist students in learning internet use, job search and basic computer applications. Definitely, there is a huge market for well trained cook and hair dresser and we hope our students will be able to easily address the selection criteria of the potential employer.
- 6. How is Imperial College of technology and management going to be different from the established colleges?
Ans: If you look at the experience and standing of ICTM management you would find them highly professional, who as an RTO, are committed to adhere to the regulatory guidelines to deliver high level of training to their students. As stated above we would focus on identifying the skill needs of every student studying at ICTM, equip them with world class skills to enter the job market. Simply, if you ensure that the teaching staffs, training and assessment tool meet AQF standards and further you improve their other skills required in the job market you have done your job as an RTO.Evidently, you see hundreds of students doing or having done commercial cookery are unable to find part time or full time job in their related field when thousands of overseas cooks or hair dresser are on subclass 457 visa in Australia. Why it is so? It suggests that the level of training and grooming did not meet the trade level requirement of job market. Certainly there exists an acute shortage of well trained and skilled manpower in this area and that is the reason the occupation of cook and hair dresser have been on the MODL for many years.
